Dr. Laura Schanilec Yoo, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT
Dr. Laura Schanilec Yoo received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2007 from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. She completed fellowship training in orthopedic manual physical therapy through the Manual Therapy Institute and was accepted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists in 2013. Laura is also certified in trigger point dry needling.
Laura teaches orthopedics as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. In her clinic, she is a mentor and clinical instructor to physical therapy students from multiple universities.
Laura specializes in treating a range of orthopedic conditions, with a particular interest in manual therapy. Her treatment philosophy looks at the source of the condition, rather than only treating the symptoms, for a more comprehensive and long-term approach to healing and success. Laura spends time educating her patients on the underlying cause of their orthopedic condition and the most effective ways to minimize the risk of future injury.
Laura has a special interest in treating the spine, running and tennis injuries. In her spare time, Laura enjoys exercising in group fitness classes, hiking, and cooking clean-eating recipes.
Dr. Won Yoo, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, CMTPT
Dr. Won Yoo received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2011 from Virginia Commonwealth University. He completed fellowship training in orthopedic manual physical therapy through the Manual Therapy Institute and was accepted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists in 2016.
Won has a broad range of experience treating in multiple specialty settings, including outpatient orthopedics, hospital inpatient, home health, neurological rehabilitation, and skilled nursing. This has enabled him to be adaptable to treat patients of any functional level.
Won specializes in functional treatment which emphasizes improvements in the everyday lives of his patients. He is committed to centering all treatment around the goals of his patients to assist their return to pain-free and normalized movement. Won gives his undivided attention to each patient which he believes is essential in helping each individual reach his or her maximum potential.
Won speaks Korean fluently. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball and watching viral videos.
Dr. Jon Coulson, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT, CMTPT
Dr. Jon Coulson received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2013 from the University of Maryland. He has a background in Exercise Science completing his Bachelors degree at the University of Pittsburgh. Jon has continued his education after graduate school becoming certified in McKenzie’s method of mechanical diagnosis and treatment, and he has also become recognized as a dry needling specialist by the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy.
The majority of Jon’s work experience is in outpatient orthopedics, however, he also works per diem at Mercy Medical Center treating patients in an acute inpatient setting. This has given him experience in treating patients with many different levels of function. He also has a growing passion for power and olympic weightlifting which forms the foundation of his own strength and conditioning program, and he aspires to be the leading authority in this region on maximizing and restoring function in weight training injuries.
Jon’s treatment plans are focused on treating the root cause of the injury as well as empowering the patient with self management techniques and lifestyle education. He is biased towards a hands on treatment approach as he has dedicated hundreds of hours to completing additional studies to develop an eclectic tool box of manual techniques. Through his coursework and work experience, he has also become specialized in treating TMJ, vestibular disorders, and chronic pain. He has a special interest in treating weightlifting, running, and volleyball injuries, but has the most satisfaction treating headaches.
